The Life Of Swamikal

Sri. Srimad Sreedhara Swami Thiruvadigal

Sreemath Sreedhara Swamikal was born on May 27, 1941, in Chirakadavu, Kottayam Kerala, India. His father, P.G. Sivasankaran Nair was a well-known physician and mother Chettedathil ParvathyAmma. Swamikal left school learning at 10 th standard longing for spritual fulfillment. On December 11, 1956 became the disciple of Sri Guru Maharaj Mahasayan in Hrishikesh. He spent over 16 years there until Guru Mahasayan’s Samadhi. During this period, he realized himself with his Guru’s strenuous lessons and infinite grace. Swamikal came back in 1975 and started his mission of leading souls to the path of self-realization. He first built a Sree Krishna Temple in 1983 next to his house and later spread his activities to the other parts of the state. Even though in the eyes of public, he seems to be like a normal man, Swamikal is believed to be the incarnation of lord Subramanian.

Swamikal is the personification of God. He is very simple and mingles with common people talking to them in whatever topic they are interested with utmost enthusiasm. His main activities include conducting discourses and classes on spiritual topics. By this, Swamikal tries to enlighten the common man about the importance and ultimate goal of human life. The way in which he delivers his discourses is outstanding. Swamikal makes everyone involved in the discourse with his humorous and informative examples. He can talk on any topic extempore for long periods of time no matter whether it is Hindu Vedas or Puranas or Upanishads or even mundane things. He conducted a 41 day long discourse in June 2000, at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari on Mahabhagavatham where hundreds of devotees participated. Sri Sankaracharya from Puri came over for the discourse for a day. Swamikal has been working in Sreedhara Swamy Sannidhanam, Parvathipuram, Nagercoil, Tamilnadu since 1980, which always echoes with “Om Namo Narayana”. Swamikal has thousands of disciples whom he hopes will carry on his mission.

Man is always after materialistic pleasures. He is into every pleasure around him, seeking happiness, fulfilment. He tries to excel everywhere, in job, in politics, trying to be the best he can. Attempts many ways of making money. Does everything he could. But next morn when he wakes up from his bed he finds, that he is that same person again. He is still nowhere; he is too far from his dream. His self is forever seeking that eternal happiness which would in turn give him eternal peace.

It is only the right path that can give you eternal peace. It is only when you realize yourself, you are liberated. Bound to the worldly pleasures you always have desire. As a social being, we all expect something from our society, a boss from his subordinate, a husband from his wife, so and so. Any slight deviation from this normal expectation makes us emotionally disturbed. Man is therefore leading a life of misery because of these expectations. His mind is not at all free. The world is making him dance to its wishes. It dictates and he obeys. It is only when you come out of such bondages, your mind will be free and you can uplift yourself. A new idea or a new discovery can take birth only in a healthy mind. To own a healthy mind, you have to realize yourself.
